Fortis Spacematic in Men’s Folio Magazine

As a pioneer of watches worn in open space, Fortis has built quite a reputation for sturdy and functional timepieces, and for more than five decades the Spacematic collection has been synonymous for tough, reliable watches that exhibit functional design. Introduced in 1962 to commemorate the brand’s 50th anniversary, the groundbreaking Spacematic quickly became a favourite among astronauts, so much so that it was even worn by several crew members of the Mercury space program. The success of the initial Spacematic models led Fortis to develop new ties with space exploration that continue to this day.

50 years after its initial debut, the historic Spacematic is reborn on the occasion of Fortis’s 100th anniversary. The new Spacematic Classic features a unique dial design inspired by a vintage model, with a classic three-hand configuration coated with Superluminova to tell the time in the darkness of space. Available in a choice of black or white dials with a bilingual (English and German) day indication at ‘9’ and date indication at ‘3’, the watches come equipped with a brushed matte stainless steel case, a signature knurled crown bearing the Fortis logo, a durable screw-down case back, and water resistance to 100 meters.
